Since its launch last year, the LAMONT MENTORING SERVICE is going from strength to strength.

The programme, which helps teachers around the country to improve on their pupils’ exam results, was started by experienced teacher Diane Lamont, who has run her own exam centre on Merseyside for more than 30 years.

“I began the mentoring programme after successfully helping several new teachers who were starting out,” said Diane. “I quickly realised that there was a niche for this sort of specific training, not just for new teachers, but for more established teachers who want to inject ‘a fresh approach’ into their exam tuition.

“I enter my own pupils into LAMDA exams, three times a year and my results are consistently some of the best in the country. It’s been a real pleasure to share that knowledge and I believe the teachers I’ve mentored so far have found it both productive and enjoyable. When I started out, I had to feel my way into the process and learn from trial and error. Over the years I’ve honed my teaching methods to give every student the best possible chance of gaining a top mark. My programme allows teachers to get up and running quickly and to assist their pupils to reach their full potential within the structured exam framework.

“Obviously, every teacher approaches their preparation slightly differently and has different areas of concern so I’m flexible to meet individual requirements. For example, sessions can be carried out via skype/video or through one-to-one mentoring at my studio. Sessions include follow up notes, lesson plans and structures, help with presentation of pupils and their examination folders and help with selection of pieces. For a more personal approach, demonstrations of my pupils’ work are arranged and lesson observance included.”
